Genealogy Research ServicesHire me to provide genealogy research on your family in Wilkes Co or Iredell Co, North Carolina.
About MeI'm not a professional genealogist. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from NC State, and I have worked as an Engineer since graduating in 1998. These two fields are more similar than you might think. Both involve using a set of known facts to create or learn something new. In engineering this might be in the form of a machine, a design, or a process; in genealogy it means combining the pieces of a puzzle so that they lead to the discovery of who, when, and where are ancestors were. Both fields require detective work applied in a logical, systematic way to arrive at a solution to a problem. My ExperienceI've been researching my family's history for over 20 years by visiting relatives and finding family cemeteries, reading microfilm at local libraries, and searching through lots of records at many different courthouses. I've also visited the state archives in both North Carolina and Virginia. It's always exciting when I find something new and I'm able to clear a road block that allows me to take a family line back a few more generations. I've placed online all the research I've conducted on my family, and I present it as an example of my thoroughness and dedication. My ProcessWhen I'm researching, I realize the importance of finding primary records to document family connections. Secondary information and research done by others can be useful in providing a lead, but the original record is crucial in establishing the "proof" that we're all looking for. I do use ancestry.com and other online resources, but I only trust them if they provide images of the actual records. This is usually only helpful for census records because land deeds, wills, and many other important records are often only available at courthouses or on microfilm. My ServicesMost of us truly enjoy researching our family history, but not everyone has the time or the means to travel long distances to search courthouse records or visit local libraries. I am available to do research in Wilkes Co and Iredell Co at a rate of $40 an hour plus expenses. In the future I hope to expand this to other areas, but I don't have time to do that now. I am very thorough and efficient and will provide copies of all pertinent records that I find.Contact me and explain what it is you want to learn, and I'll promptly reply as to how I can be of help.
