"She was alone when she communicated with the fire warden of Ashe County, and said she was sick, other wardens heard and sent the message to her home. Her mother and Bettie Joe, with two neighbors, rushed to the scene, to find her lying at the foot of the tower, unconscious. She was rushed to the Hospital at Sparta, where she passed peacefully away at 5:00pm." She was a member of Liberty Knob Baptist Church. She leaves 12 siblings: Mrs. Ruth Fox, Thelma, Bettie Joe, Herman, Sam, Raymond, Edward, Dwight, Andy, Mack, George Jr, Clyde, and R. C. Funeral services were held at Cherry Lane Baptist Church. She was buried the following day when her husband returned from Germany where he was serving in the Army.
